IWM Duxford evening airshow

This is usually one of the highlights of the year. Duxford makes photographing aircraft hard with the airfield lay out and where the sun sits in the afternoon sky, the aircraft are always backlit. This evening event has the sun low and over our right shoulder so we get warmer and more directional light.

This almost happened! The moon was as seen, and the display almost passed in front of the moon. In this image I have helped bring the two parts together as this was what I was trying to take in just the one shot.

The mix of aircraft is typical of a flying day at Duxford, but for some reason the line up was missing a P41 Mustang and the Catalina. However the Vampire went up, and for a spectacular finale in the dark, fireworks!
