Ospreys
Date: May 26th 2024.
Event : Osprey photography morning
Location : Gwash Trout Farm, Rutland, UK
This was my third visit of the year to photograph the Ospreys.
In the Summer months, this is an early start, as to avoid disturbing and spooking the birds we need top be settled in the hide before it gets light, so the meet up time is 3:45am, so left home at 2:15am.
The weather was poor, overcast with intermittent rain, meaning low light levels and challenging conditions to photograph in. My preference is to be shooting at around 1/2000 of a second or higher but this was not possible while the light level was very low.
A session lasts around 4 1/2 hours so we were finished around 8:30am and I was home for 10am!
We had two dives from Osprey T7 (the local dominant male) and he caught I fish on each dive. During the periods of inactivity there were six Grey herons trying to share four key positions around the lake, it was musical chairs for herons!
